Who is ILP?
(International Language Program)
Housing
For a fee of about $4,000 ILP gives you and 15-20 volunteers the ability to move to another country for 3-4 months. During this time housing, food, and amenities are provided for you. Without their help it would be nearly impossible to sustain ones self, especially in these third world/developing countries.
Teaching
While abroad, you are expected to teach English to the children of that country for 15-20 hours per week. Volunteering includes training on the ILP Method of teaching. Volunteers may teach children 2-15 years old in various group sizes. We are expected to plan and execute our own lessons.
Leisure
Working with ILP gives volunteers freedom to explore their country. Besides the hours accounted for teaching, you are able to spend your time as you please. Three vacations totaling 13 days are included in free time. ILP offers many resources for volunteers to be able to see as much as they can.

My Friends
At the very beginning of the trip, my group was the biggest struggle that I faced. I have never been surrounded by more people who were insanely different from me. The first month or two there were about 4 cliques that made up our house that did not mingle.
However, through the course of the trip, we were able to grow closer. This was because of many hard times that fell on our group and our community. After those events, we became one group, and the rest of our trip was more fun than I thought it would’ve been.
Beach Trips
Someday I want to move back to the beach! I had so much fun there.
Dominican Food
I got to try new foods every day, and I found some things I love.
Crazy Kids

Endless Activities
We didn’t just go to the beach sometimes we even hiked waterfalls.
The Locals
I met so many people who have changed my life and mean so much!
Language Immersion
It was a great experience for me to be able to practice my Spanish all day.

My Favorite Student
This is Santo. He was a student I taught at Juan Bosch. He was my absolute favorite of all time student because he was so mischeveous and difficult.
Temple Trips
We were lucky enough to be able to participate in our ward’s temple trip. We stayed in the Santo Domingo MTC and got to know our ward way better over the weekend.
Our Cat: Micheal
We had a house cat named Micheal who protected us from all the other stray cats and mice inside our house. He was the sweetest cat I’ve ever met, and I miss him so much.
The 27 Waterfalls
One of our favorite things to do over the weekend was to go to the 27 waterfalls. It was like a waterpark built entirely out of natural waterfalls it was so much fun.
The Christ Statue
Another famous sight of Puerto Plata is the Christ Statue. It was a strenuous hike up to the top, but the view is beautiful. Not fun hiking a 90-degree angle though.
Songs and Games
I know infinitely more songs and games now than I did when I left on this trip. Their favorites are Little Sally Walker and Baby Shark. I think I am set for the rest of my life.
